German tourist held for ransom in Oaxaca freed and her kidnapper arrested

Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca — A German tourist who was kidnapped earlier this month has been rescued and her kidnapper arrested. In a press report by the Attorney General of the State of Oaxaca (FGEO), a male person identified as Silverio “N” was taken into custody on September 20 during the rescue of the Oaxaca tourist.

The woman was kidnapped from a construction building in the town of Santa María Colotepec in the Costa region September 8. The FGEO says she did not know her kidnapper. She was held against her will for 12 days and her family contacted for “a large sum of money” in exchange for her release, they said.

The FGEO reported that an inter-institutional operation headed by the FGEO, through the Specialized Unit in Combating Kidnapping, lead to her rescue and his arrest in the vicinity of the Paraíso de Colotepec neighborhood on September 20. The woman was reported to be found “in good condition”.
