Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Five men part of a Riviera Maya criminal gang have been captured by State Police and National Guard. The arrests were made Tuesday. Four of the men are reported members while one is said to be a leader.
The five criminals were taken into custody in separate arrests. They are believed members of a criminal group that has been targeting Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
One of those arrested, Roberto Carlos “N” alias “El Tiburón” and/or “El Mosco” and/or “El Fresa”, is designated as the head of a criminal group of hitmen. He is being held for his alleged participation in homicide, kidnapping, drug dealing and extortion
In separate arrests, Ángel Yair “N” alias “Sombra”, Wilbert Iván “N” alias “Jomi”, José Manuel “N” and William “N” were also arrested. The five are members of a criminal group that generates violence in the municipalities of Tulum and Solidaridad, the FGE reported.
Roberto Carlos “N” is being investigated for the January 4, 2024 murder of two people in Tulum. He is also being investigated for the kidnapping of a Tulum taxi driver who has been missing since January 22, 2024, as well as the disappearance of a minor on December 28, 2023.
Likewise, he is believed related to the homicide of a man, whose body was found dismembered along with a cardboard message, on a section of Playa del Carmen highway on January 21 of the current year.
“He is attributed with the murder of two men whose bodies were located in the community of Chumpón in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto on January 22,” the FGE said.
Another of the detainees, Wilbert Iván “N”, alias “Jomi”, was served with an arrest warrant for facts possibly constituting the crime of qualified homicide to the detriment of a male found dead on January 22 in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
In the irregular Nassin neighborhood in Tulum, police arrested Ángel Yair “N”, who was found in possession of drugs and a loaded firearm. He is being investigated for drug dealing in Tulum through the criminal organization. He is also being looked into for his possible relation to the disappearance of a minor in Tulum.
José Manuel “N” and William “N” were arrested separately in the 2 de Octubre neighborhood of Tulum on drug charges.
A total of 21 people believed connected to criminal groups have been arrested, “thereby impacting the structure of this criminal group, mainly with the capture of the head of hitmen and drug dealers,” the FGE reported.
