Cozumel, Q.R. — A young woman was pronounced dead on a Cozumel highway after skidding on a motorcycle that tried to avoid a deer. The late night accident was reported to island authorities Thursday near midnight.
Motorists stopped on the Coastal Highway after witnessing the male driver of the motorcycle attempt to swerve to avoid a deer. Both the male driver and his female passenger skidded for several meters before coming to a stop.
In the middle of the road lay the man, woman and deer. According to Telly Caamal Hau, the Deputy Director of Cozumel Traffic, the woman, Isabel “N”, and the deer died at the scene.
The male driver of the motorcycle, José “N”, was taken to an island hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
