Cozumel, Q.R. — The body of an elderly woman was found floating off the island by a tourist boat operator Friday. The body is that of a 77-year-old California woman who was found dressed in dive gear and outfitted with a blue tank.
According to Cozumel Civil Protection Dirctor Rafael Tenorio Pizano, authorities are investigating if she was alone or with a group at the time of her death. The woman was discovered shortly before 1:00 p.m. Friday between Chankanaab and Curva Torments.
State authorities were at the scene for the recovery of the body Friday afternoon. She has been identified as 77-year-old Anna “L” from California. She was a tourist staying at an island hotel at the time of the accident.
An autopsy will reveal the official cause of death.
