Cozumel tourist dies day after highway motorcycle accident

Cozumel, Q.R. — The male driver of a motorcycle involved in a Sunday night accident on the island of Cozumel has died. The tourist identified as Nicandro “D” died Monday in hospital due to severe head injuries.

The accident happened Sunday evening around 8:00 p.m. when he was driving a rented motorcycle on an island road. While cruising the southern coastal highway with a female passenger, the bike skidded and crashed into highway brush.

The 60-year-old man was rushed to a San Miguel hospital with serious injures. Friends and family posted social media requests for urgent blood donations. He is reported to have died from his injuries Monday at the San Miguel Clinic.

The accident is reported to have been caused by passing wildlife. According to the female passenger, the driver attempted to avoid a small animal that caused him to lose control and skid.

Nicandro “D”, the deceased, was a Mexican television producer and was on the island of Cozumel as a vacationing tourist at the time of the accident. His body will be returned to Mexico City.
