Cozumel, Q.R. — For the second time in less than two weeks, Cozumel residents have been put on alert after men opened fire in their neighborhood.
Seven shell casings were collected from the street of a Cozumel residential area after a late night shooting. Investigators were sent to the area after reports of open air gunfire.
The shooting happened shortly after midnight when, according to neighbors, men aboard a motorcycle appeared and began firing shots into the air.
The incident happened along 90th Street in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. Police combed the area, locating seven shells on the ground and one more found lodged in the side of a private car.
Although there were no injuries reported, residents of Emiliano Zapata were on alert due to the second unprovoked attack against their neighborhood.
Less than two weeks ago, a report of similar gunfire into the air was made in the same neighborhood. Area residents reported men on a motorcycle firing shots into the air in a different section of the same residential area.
There were no arrests in either of the shooting reports.
