Cozumel coral project unharmed by passing hurricane

Cozumel, Q.R. — After the passage of Hurricane Zeta, the Foundation of Parks and Museums of Cozumel verified that the corals planted on the coastline of Chankanaab Park resisted the onslaught of the strong currents caused by the October 26 hurricane.

Staff of the Center for Conservation and Environmental Education carried out a monitoring operation to verify the condition of the more than 1,000 coral fragments from the restoration program.

Project coordinator Antonio Chale Chim, confirmed that the bases, structures and coral are in good general condition and that the second stage will continue, which consists of planting more fragments to continue repopulating and expanding the restoration area of the Chankanaab coastline.
