Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Large blocks of Isla Mujeres will be without electricity for several hours while the CFE makes repairs. The scheduled blackouts will begin around 5:00 a.m. and continue throughout most of the day.
On Friday, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced that non-emergency work will be done on several points. The work is being done by CFE crews brought in from Yucatán.
The work will consist of pole replacment as well as the replacement of cables and transformers on varying parts of the island.
Areas known to be affected include Rueda Medina Avenue, Punta Sur, the Ultracarga maritime terminal as well the neighborhoods of Electricistas, Caribeña, Caridad del Cobre, Lol Bé, Miraflores, Meteorológico, Cañotal and part of La Gloria.
Last week, the island was left without electricity overnight due to a mainland failure. The Punta Sam failure occurred when CFE personnel were performing maintenance. While doing so, one of the underground lines that powers the island failed.
