Cancun judge hands down 50 year prison sentence to four for murder during theft

Cancun, Q.R. — Four men have each been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the murder of three Cancun construction workers. The incident happened in September of 2022 when the four men arrived at the site to steal bags of concrete.

During the robbery, the four men were surprised by the three construction workers who showed up for work. According to a report by the State Attorney General (FGE), the four thieves killed the three construction workers by hanging.

Jonathan Benito “N”, Cruz David “N”, Pedro “N” and Diego Omar “N” have each been handed down the maximum 50-year sentence for the murders by a Cancun judge.

“After providing the corresponding evidence, the State Attorney General’s Office obtained a conviction of the maximum penalty for four subjects prosecuted for the crime of qualified homicide to the detriment of three victims in events that occurred in the early morning on September 24, 2022,” the FGE said in their report.

“Those now sentenced are Jonathan Benito “N”, Cruz David “N”, Pedro “N” and Diego Omar “N”, who must serve a sentence of 50 years in prison, which is the maximum provided by the Penal Code for the crime of qualified homicide.

“The events for which they were found guilty occurred on the indicated date when the three male victims arrived aboard a car at a construction site located on Tulipán Street and Natura Circuit in SM 260.”

In addition to the prison sentence, they must pay a fine of 288,660 pesos and the amount of 874,722.20 pesos for each victim for moral and material damage.
