Cancun, Q.R. — A burst pipe is the said cause of the collapse of a section of ceiling inside a Cancun hospital. The collapse happened around 8:00 p.m. Saturday while on-duty staff worked around the effected area.
Large garbage cans had been placed under the burst pipe to collect the dripping water. After hours of leaking, a section gave way leaving the ceiling exposed to pipes and wiring.
The incident was reported in the Regional General Hospital 17 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) of Cancun. There were no in injuries reported.
On Sunday, IMSS Quintana Roo issued a statement reporting that at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, a water leak was reported in the tocosurgery waiting room due to a burst pipe.
Personnel preceded to move patients who were in the area. The area of the collapse was empty and not being used at the time of the collapse.
