Cozumel, Q.R. — Patrolling National Guard personnel secured a Cozumel beach area Thursday after finding a body. Elements of Guardia Nacional made the discovery early Thursday morning near Playa Mezcalitos.
Municipal Police Deputy Director Ismael García Vázquez confirmed the discovery by National Guard personnel between Playa Mezcalitos and Punta Morena. The body has since been identified as 49-year-old Sledz “P”, a tourist of Polish origin.
The two beach areas he mentioned are separated by about 2.5 kilometers. García Vázquez said that since the body showed no signs of decomposition, it is believed he died sometime Thursday.
“It could not have been Wednesday since the body was not decomposed. There were no bruises. The body was not inflated,” he explained.
The man was found laying face up on the shore with a majority of his torso in the water. A rented motorcycle was found parked on the eastern highway near the area where the body was located.
