Body of man retrieved from Cozumel waters after navy recovery mission

Cozumel, Q.R. — The body of a man has been retrieved from the sea at Cozumel by navy rescue personnel. The body of the man was discovered Wednesday just before 1:00 p.m. after a local called Emergency 911 saying they had seen the body under the water.

Elements from the Naval Search and Rescue Station deployed a recovery mission where they found the body of a man approximately 100 meters from shore at kilometer 4.5 of the southern coastal road. The body is alleged to have been in chains, however, authorities have not provided official information. The deceased male was found on the seabed near a floating catamaran.

The body of the deceased was handed over to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for an autopsy while police investigate.
