Authorities lay charges against pair extorting Isla Mujeres business

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two men have been officially charged with extorting a hotel in Costa Mujeres, in the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres. Police say the men were part of a trio that arrived armed demanding floor rights.

“Hansel Guadalupe “N” and Juan Antonio “N” are accused of events that occurred on April 26, 2025 when they went to a commercial business located in the Continental Zone, where they approached the employees with the purpose of collecting, through intimidation and threats, the “floor fee” in the amount of $450 per week,” police reported.

Following the reporting of these incidents, members of the FGE carried out an operation at a commercial establishment located in Supermanzana 64 in the municipality of Benito Juárez, where they arrested the suspects in flagrante delicto when they went, as agreed, to collect the extortion money.

Agents assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Extortion and Kidnapping seized a yellow envelope containing 450, a firearm, two magazines and a telephone.

Last week, Jorge Alberto “N” was charged with extorting the same Isla Mujeres mainland business. Police say he was with Hansel Guadalupe “N” and Juan Antonio “N” during the cash pickup. Jorge Alberto “N” was identified by the victim as the person who demanded $450 USD per week and threatened to kill him if he refused to pay.
