Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An elderly woman reportedly died of a heart attack while on a catamaran tour of Isla Mujeres. The American woman was part of a catamaran group that left Cancun at 2:00 p.m. Monday for an afternoon tour at sea.
The large boat was heading toward the island of Isla Mujeres around 5:00 p.m. when she reported feeling bad. The boat’s captain notified officials of their need for medical assistance while heading toward an Isla Mujeres pier.
However, before the boat was able to dock, the woman died. Details of the incident including the woman’s name and age were not released, only that she was of American nationality.
Medical personnel who were waiting for the arrival of the catamaran pronounced the woman as dead. Forensic medical officials were charged with removing the body from the vessel and transferring it to Cancun for an autopsy.
