Tijuana, Baja California — An American man has been jailed in Baja California after being found in possession of war material. According to a statement from Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana, elements of the National Customs Agency of Mexico made the discovery in the “nothing to claim” vehicle lane.
The American vehicle was inspected at the El Chaparral checkpoint in Tijuana, Baja California Tuesday when the driver entered the “nothing to claim” lane but got a red traffic light from the automated system.
Officers inspected the van with State of Oklahoma license plates. A thorough review located one short weapon, eight chargers for short arms, 1,071 cartridges of various calibers, one tactical type helmet and one tactical vest.
The American man, who has not been identified, was registered in the National Detention Registry during his arrest. The vehicle and items found were seized.
