Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Zofemat workers of Isla Mujeres have been busy chasing sand due to recent strong winds. Beach sand on the island has covered large areas of a public walkway that needed to be cleared.

Zofemat Isla Mujeres carried out the necessary clearing work to restore the sand at Playa Centro, which, due to the force of recent Surada winds, extended to the seawall and part of the road.
Dayana Pérez Medina, the Director of Zofemat Isla Mujeres, reported that due to the strong winds, the sand at Playa Centro covered part of the seawall on Rueda Medina Avenue. Therefore, a special crew was activated early in the morning to lift the sand, clean it, sift it and put it back.
The southerly winds that have affected the coasts of Quintana Roo caused the Playa Centro sand to shift, a natural phenomenon commonly seen during these times of the year in the face of strong winds, Pérez Medina said.
She says staff from her department began cleaning work early in the morning and collected more than 2.5 tons of sand, which was returned to the beach area, improving the appearance of the main avenue.

She explained that the sandy beaches of Playa Centro have been restored, thus maintaining the beauty and purity of Isla Mujeres’ beaches, which in addition to having Blue Flag and Platinum certification, are ranked among the best in the world.
