Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A boat carrying several tourists during a whale shark tour sank in waters off the island of Isla Mujeres.
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon. Other area boats were quick to assist the sinking vessel Jesusito and its small crew, who were all pulled to safety via other tourist boats also whale shark watching.
No injuries were reported, only material damage. There was no word on what caused Jesusito to sink.
Whale Shark season along the Yucatan Peninsula runs from June to September when the large fish appear in Caribbean waters around Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Isla Contoy and Isla Holbox to feed.
