Mexico City, Mexico — Volaris says it has had to cancel plans to run a Los Angeles route since Mexico remains in a U.S. air safety Category 2 rating. The airline made the announcement Friday, reporting the cancellation of plans to fly from Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) to Los Angeles.
Enrique Beltranena, general director of Volaris, said it is unfortunate that Mexico was not able to recover its Category 1 air safety rating with American authorities. Given the situation, the intended flight route to Los Angeles will not happen.
“The subject of the category is very unfortunate. It is a significant delay, but definitely, the Los Angeles flight for the month of December will not happen,” he said.
Earlier this year, Volaris announced its interest in flying to the United States from the AIFA starting December.
