Two Isla Mujeres beaches Blue Flag certified for second year

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Playa Norte and Playa Centro on the island area of the municipality of Isla Mujeres have renewed their Blue Flag status.

On Thursday, Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde announced that both of the island’s beaches were successful in renewing “the prestigious Blue Flag certification for the second consecutive year.”

“Blue Flag is a prestigious and globally recognized recognition that promotes excellence in beach management, encourages environmental awareness and contributes to sustainable tourism by attracting tourists concerned about the environment and the quality of their destinations,” she explained.

This distinction highlights the commitment of Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde and her government to tourism excellence and sustainable development.

“This certification shows Isla Mujeres to the world as a tourist destination of excellence, which is reflected in the strengthening of the municipality’s economy, attracting more visitors in search of a destination where they can enjoy clean, orderly and safe beaches,” she said during the event.

Ricalde recognized the tireless work of the Zofemat team who keep the beaches of Isla Mujeres clean, helping to transform this paradise into a top-level tourist destination.

“The work of this great team, led by Antonio Delgado González, is key to keeping the municipality’s coasts impeccable, providing locals and tourists with a unique experience,” she said.

Present at the raising of the Blue Flag in Playa Centro were the director of Operations and Finance FEE México, Diego Díaz Hernández, Vice Admiral Martín Barney representing the commander of the Ninth Naval Region, the Treasurer of Isla Mujeres, Flor Cecilia Narváez Segovia and the Director of Zofemat Isla Mujeres, Antonio Delgado González.
