Two Cancun kitesurfers rescued and found in violation of municipal restrictions

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two locals hopped aboard their vessel and headed out to sea to rescue two men the spotted having difficulty. The pair were kitsurfing off the mainland of Isla Mujeres after having left Cancun. Strong wind gusts in excess of 50 kms/hour created unfavorable conditions for the pair.

Locals Captain Isauro Martínez and sailor Adrián Dzul made their way to the men, pulling them aboard their vessel. Protección Civil of Isla Mujeres were alerted to the rescue, finding the two men were in violation of municipal restrictions to stay at home.

The pair had left Cancun and were found kitesurfing off Isla Mujeres manland waters, ignoring recommendations made by the Ministry of Health to stay home. They were transferred to Playa Indios where authorities were waiting.

All ports remain closed to private and tourist activities, with the port captaincy authorizing only cargo and route vessels.
