Tourist from Monterrey dies while snorkeling with wife

Cancun, Q.R. — A tourist from Monterrey died Tuesday morning while snorkeling near Isla Mujeres with his wife. The couple were part of a private tour boat that had left a Cancun port earlier that day.

While in the water snorkeling, the man suddenly appeared unconscious. His wife, Iracema N, was the first to notice. She alerted the boat captain, Alberto Chavez, who in turn with his crew, returned the unconscious man to the boat.

Finding him unresponsive, authorities were alerted at which point, the boat headed back for the Cancun port.

When they arrived around 11:30 a.m., police and medical personnel were waiting, however, the man was already deceased. He has been identified as 45-year-old Daniel N from Monterrey. He was vacationing with his wife when the accident happened.

The dock remained cordoned off until the arrival of forensic staff from Semefo. The case is in the hands of the State Attorney General’s Office.
