Three fishermen rescued from drifting off Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Elements of the Fifth Naval Region have reported the rescue of three fishermen who were found adrift due to engine problems. Isla Mujeres marines stumbled upon the troubled vessel while performing water surveillance tours.

The crew of three and their vessel, Rene and Elena, were discovered drifting approximately eight nautical miles (15 kilometers) southeast of Isla Mujeres.

According to information provided by the Mexican Navy, a coastal patrol sighted a smaller Imemsa-type vessel whose crew members seemed to be having problems. As the coastal patrol approached, the three crew members explained that they were adrift due to engine failure.

The men and their vessel were transferred to the quay of the Fifth Naval Region where personnel from the Harbor Master of Isla Mujeres were waiting for them for the corresponding procedures.
