Chetumal, Q.R. — Three Chetumal police officers have gone missing in the last 48 hours. All three are reportedly linked to the Caborca Cartel.
On Monday night, 42-year-old Christian “N” was reported missing after being abducted. He is the head of the Rural Police for the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, stationed in the state’s capital city of Chetumal.
He left his home Monday to meet with people but never returned. His whereabouts remains unknown and there have not been any leads as to where he may be. Local media have reported that Christian “N” was one of the officers investigated internally for his alleged relationship with members of organized crime.
He was allegedly investigated for providing information about the activities of the security forces in the rural area of Othón P. Blanco .
On Wednesday morning Ángel “G”, a State Police agent assigned to the municipal police, was also allegedly abducted. Police located his motorcycle in the community of Santa Elena after meeting someone there.
The third abducted man is reported to be a former member of the police force. His name and previous position has not been confirmed.
The recent death of a local hitman is being factored into the disappearance of the three men. According to local media information, the three abductions could be related to a list that “El Grúas”, a now-deceased hitman for the Caborca Cartel, was carrying when he was killed.
This list is said to contain the names of police officers who allegedly collaborated with the criminal organization by receiving money in exchange for information such as where patrols would be set up.
A missing persons report for two of the three men has been released by the FGE of Quintana Roo.
