Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Thousands enjoyed free entertainment around Cancun and Riviera Maya to ring in the New Year. Fireworks were the main attraction at the public celebrations around the state Tuesday night.
Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta said at least 7,000 Cancun residents gathered for the New Year’s celebration at Tajamar 2025. She said the grand celebration was organized for the first time by the Benito Juárez City Council to promote healthy coexistence on the eve of the start of a new year.
“I love seeing the Tajamar Boardwalk full of Cancun residents and tourists. It was a historic day because it is the first time we had this event to celebrate the beginning of a New Year,” she said.
Residents started gathering at the Tajamar Boardwalk around 9:00 p.m. The evening consisted of live entertainment, dancing, artists and traditional foods.
At midnight, with a drone stopwatch and fireworks, spectators erupted in great jubilation that gave rise to the colorful and showy pyrotechnics and LED lights show never before seen on the boardwalk.
The city of Cancun also, with technology, displayed sky images of snowflakes, Santa Claus with his sleigh, a shooting star and “Cancun Unites Us”.
Playa del Carmen hosted a large outdoor event New Year’s Eve. Approximately 25,000 people showed up for the free concert held at the city fairgrounds. The event was put on as part of the city’s Solidaridad Navidad Mágica to ring in the New Year.
Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez also welcomed 2025 with residents and tourists. On a night full of music, joy, unity and hope, the municipal president of Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez, rang in the New Year with island families, tourists and visitors on the Municipal Esplanade during the traditional Grand New Year’s Ball.
“The year 2024 was a year of transformation for our community. We have worked tirelessly to strengthen our roots and improve the quality of life of each of you. Together we have faced challenges that have put us to the test, and together we have shown that by working together, we are capable of overcoming any obstacle and building a bright future for Isla Mujeres,” said Atenea Gómez.
“A year of hard work and many new challenges is coming, but I am sure that by working together, with the same passion and determination that has characterized us, we will be able to move forward. Only in this way will we be able to continue improving our beautiful Isla Mujeres,” she said.
