Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The director of tourism for Isla Mujeres says the last hotel that had remained open in the municipality during the pandemic, has now closed.
With a hotel occupancy rate of nearly zero, Gustavo Rodríguez Orozco said the last Isla Mujeres hotel that was open and catering to guests has now also shut its doors after the handful of tourists left Saturday. He said the Mia Hotel, located at the north end of the Island, had guests until this past weekend.
Now that they have gone, the hotel, as of Sunday, officially shut, joining more than 100 others in the area. Hotel management of Mia confirmed the last guests left Saturday and that as of Sunday, the hotel would be temporarily closed.
Rodríguez Orozco commented that the situation is complicated for many local businessmen, however, they understand that the shutdown is something that is affecting everyone equally.
