Texas man ‘missing in Tulum’ seeks out help from police

Tulum, Q.R. — A Texas man who made his way to a Tulum federal building was helped after saying he had been lost missing for a couple of days. The American man walked into the building alone Friday in search of assistance.

According to a brief statement from the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) of Quintana Roo, the 44-year-old American was medically evaluated, fed, temporarily sheltered and being helped in returning home to the U.S.

“The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) helped a man who said his name was Vere Wells, 44 years old and originally from Texas, United States, who had apparently been missing for a couple of days in Tulum.

“The police requested support from a Red Cross unit for a medical evaluation who stated that he did not need to be transferred to a hospital. Subsequently, he was given temporary shelter and help so that he could soon return to his country. The Secretariat of Citizen Security reaffirms its commitment to the safety of the citizens.”

Police did not say how the man had become missing or lost for those ‘couple of days’. Details surrounding the event were not provided.
