Suspects in deadly Isla Mujeres attacks captured by police

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two suspects have been taken into custody for the shooting deaths of two men at Isla Blanca. Elements of the State Attorney General’s Office in coordination with the Interinstitutional Task Force captured the men Saturday night.

The pair were found during an intense police operation in a residential area of Cancun that borders Isla Mujeres Saturday evening. In a police statement, authorities said Carlos “N” and Daniel “N” were arrested for homicide and attempted homicide against three victims.

Two of them died and one is still in the hospital. The shootings happened October 18 of this year. At the time of his arrest, Carlos “N” was found to be carrying a 9 mm firearm, which matches the shell casings found at the scene of the crime, they reported.

Carlos “N” and Daniel “N” remain in police custody for “events that occurred on October 18 of this year, in Isla Blanca, belonging to the Continental Zone of the municipality of Isla Mujeres, when two men were killed and one more survived the firearm attack after being transferred to a hospital in the city of Cancun,” they said in a statement.

The pair were found during an police search operation Saturday night.

“That morning, the victims, who were tourism service providers, were travelling in a compact vehicle when they were intercepted by a van, from which armed men got out and took them to a dirt road where they committed the crime. The bodies were found a day later, on 19 October,” police added.

Carlos “N”, a hitman according to police, is a member of a criminal group generating violence in the municipalities of Isla Mujeres and Benito Juárez (Cancun).
