Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — For the fourth consecutive day, the port was closed to small vessels in and around the municipality of Isla Mujeres due to the strong winds that have been constant with the arrival of the region’s latest cold front.
Cold Front 42 arrived late Thursday with cool temperatures and strong wind gusts that has lasted several days. Port authorities closed navigation to all small vessels under 40 feet, a closure that has affected local fishermen as well as tourist providers.
Due to the restrictions issued by the port captaincy of Isla Mujeres, small vessel transport to the island of Contoy were also closed.
Dozens of small boats remained anchored in the tourist docks of the island.
