Social media video helps family locate man in Cancun missing 25 years

Cancun, Q.R. — Relatives of a man that had been missing for 25 years was found by chance last week wandering the streets of Cancun. A nephew of the missing Tabasco native caught a glimpse of his uncle on a social media video that had been posted online.

The missing family member of 25 years just happened to be captured in the video, which began a search for him on Cancun streets. The nephew traveled to Cancun in search of his missing uncle.

Once there, he requested help from Cancun Police who in turn, were able to track the man down in central Cancun where he lived on the streets.

The Tabasco native, who had been living homeless, was reunited with his nephew and, according to local authorities, has since been returned to the state of Tabasco with his nephew.

In a statement, Policía de Cancún said “elements of the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security located a man who had been wanted by his family for 25 years.

“Thanks to a video on TikTok, the relative identified him and with the support of the officers, they found him in superblock 21. After meeting him, the agents helped with his transfer, cleaning and management of his return to Tabasco.”

In a video posted after his return, the man’s family members thanked Cancun Municipal Police for helping them locate their missing relative. “We are grateful for helping us move this relative, who, for 25 years, we knew nothing about,” they said.
