Small boat operators suffer after ports closed most of the week

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Navigation to smaller vessels has been closed by port authorities for most of the week. For four days, small tourists boats and local fishermen have not been permitted to operate due to bad weather.

On Thursday, the National Civil Protection Coordination again reported the closure of ports in four municipalities. Small vessels in Puerto Juárez (Cancún), Holbox, Isla Mujeres and Puerto Morelos have been forced to remain moored during the passing of the region’s first depression.

In Cancun, the maritime terminal of Puerto Juárez has only allowed the ferries to run between Isla Mujeres and the Cancun mainland.

The unstable weather has also affected other ports including those in Campeche and Veracruz.
