Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Seven people were injured in an early Friday morning highway crash that involved two vehicles. Municipal patrol units reached the 6:30 a.m. accident scene north of Puerto Morelos where they located two crunches vehicles.
Passing motorists on their way to Cancun phoned the accident in to emergency 911. Firemen from Puerto Morelos attended to the accident since there was a report of a trapped person inside the van.
According to early reports, the driver of the passenger van was trapped behind the steering wheel after the front of the vehicle took a hit. The entire driver’s side collapsed inwards, pinning him in his seat.
Firemen worked to free him so he could be transported to a waiting ambulance. His condition is unknown. Others injured were evaluated by arriving paramedics and transferred accordingly.
Traffic was backed up for kilometers due to the extent of the accident scene. Police did not provide a cause for the accident.
