Seven Cubans rescued from shipwrecked boat by oil tanker in Quintana Roo waters

Cozumel, Q.R. — Seven Cuban nationals were brought to a Quintana Roo port by elements of the Mexican Navy after their shipwrecked vessel was reported to authorities.

The Secretary of the Navy said that they located seven people, later determined to be of Cuban nationality, after an oil tanker reported seeing their boat approximately 216 nautical miles (400 kilometers) southeast of Isla Cozumel.

Members of Mexico’s Navy set sail to locate the oil tanker who reported having rescued the seven men from aboard their shipwrecked vessel. Mexican officials transferred the Cuban men from the oil tanker to their Navy vessel and returned them to Quintana Roo headquarters for processing.
