Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Seven Cuban nationals were located off the island of Isla Mujeres after being intercepted by Navy personnel. The small makeshift vessel was met by authorities approximately 12 nautical miles (22 kilometers) northeast of Isla Mujeres early Tuesday.
The vessel was met after authorities received a report from the Harbor Master’s Office of Isla Mujeres. The report was made to the Command and Control Room of the Ninth Naval Region on a non-propelled artisanal vessel with allegedly undocumented crew members.
Personnel from the Naval Search Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) of Isla Mujeres set out to locate the vessel. Once located, seven male crew members were found on board. All seven were transferred to the Puerto Juárez Naval Station and eventually to the INM office.
