Poor wiring reported to be cause of Isla Mujeres house fire

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A fire that ripped through a home in Isla Mujeres has left a family without a roof over their head. The fast moving fire happened late Monday morning on the municipal mainland.

Although neighbors tried to help stop the fire from spreading, buckets of water were not enough to prevent the fire from devouring the small home. Firemen worked for nearly an hour to put out the flames that threatened other homes due to strong winds.

One man, believed to have been an occupant of the home, was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor burns.

Authorities have since reported the fire started inside a light socket. Poor electrical wiring has been the said cause of the fire.
