Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Police have captured two youths after locating a buried body in the backyard of an Isla Mujeres home. The pair have been arrested for kidnapping and aggravated homicide.

Police announced their arrests Monday after a weekend property search operation of an Isla Mujeres house. The State Attorney General’s Office has said that José Antonio “N” and Bryan “N” remain in custody in relation to the November 9 kidnapping and subsequent murder.

“The victim’s relatives paid the amount of 3,000 pesos (around $150 USD) that they demanded for his release. The body was found buried in the yard of a house,” the State Attorney General said.

Police executed a search warrant Sunday which, according to them, “led to the discovery of a body buried clandestinely. Before this, two male persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in events possibly constituting the crimes of kidnapping and aggravated homicide in the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres.”

Both José Antonio “N” and Bryan “N” were picked up after being named in a complaint by the victim’s relatives, who reported him missing on November 9 of this year.

“The victim’s relatives paid the amount of 3,000 pesos that was demanded for his release. After field and technological investigations, they located the address on Girasoles Street in the Los Olivos neighborhood in the Rancho Viejo irregular settlement, where they arrested the suspects,” the FGE explained.

Following the investigation, police were able to get a search warrant for the house “where they found the lifeless body of the victim buried in the backyard.”
