Police investigate site possibly used to bury Cancun murder victims

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Guards continue to secure a site where, over the weekend, police located the skeletal remains of a person. The location of those remains were made possible after the arrest of two men believed responsible for the death.

Since then, police have continued to attend to a site on a property located on the continental mainland of Isla Mujeres. Reports say a possible eight additional bodies could be buried in the area near Isla Blanca.

While the site continues to be protected by guards, police are working on obtaining a search warrant to verify if there are additional bodies buried on the property. The site came into question after the arrest of two men Friday, who gave the location of the deceased person for which they were arrested. In a press release, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) noted that the arrested men are believed related to other homicides in the municipality of Benito Juárez (Cancun).

While searching for those remains, police stumbled across additional skeletal remains. Investigative police officers have allegedly found two machetes, human clothing and a large number of bones near the first site, which could correspond to additional victims.
