Police collect spent casings along highway after Riviera Maya motorists report gunfire

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Police collected spent shell casings from a section of Riviera Maya highway Wednesday. The casings were collected after motorist reports of gunfire north of the city of Playa del Carmen.

Several Playa del Carmen police units responded to the reports of gunfire being exchanged between two vehicles during a highway chase.

Motorists traveling the federal highway between Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos reported the incident happened near the area known as El Socavón.

Municipal police officers arrived and cordoned off a large section of highway shoulder where at least two spent casings were found.

Quthorities confirmed no injuries, arrests, or vehicles were reported in connection with the Wednesday afternoon incident.
