Police capture a state’s Most Wanted in Isla Mujeres homicides and extortion

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A suspect on the state of Quintana Roo’s Most Wanted list was captured over the weekend in Cancun. Hugo Zuriel “N”, alias “Gemelo”, was wanted in relation to the October 2024 theft of 3 million pesos in Cancun. He was also wanted for one count of homicide, three counts of attempted homicide and extortion in Isla Mujeres.

According to police, Hugo Zuriel “N” was taken into custody on outstanding arrest warrants “for his alleged involvement in events possibly constituting the crimes of qualified homicide and attempted homicide and extortion.”

Through intelligence, field and office work, it was possible to locate the now detained. He was taken into custody from SM 514 of Cancun. During his arrest, police reported finding narcotics.

In a statement, authorities said Hugo Zuriel “N” was considered a priority target of the State Criminal Atlas (Atlas Delictivo del Estado). His location and capture was in coordination with Investigative Police, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Secretariat of the Navy, the Secretariat of National Defense and National Guard.

“Regarding the arrest warrants issued against Hugo Zuriel “N”, one is for qualified homicide and attempted homicide against three victims, which occurred in Isla Blanca, while the other is for extortion in the same area of the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres.

“Hugo Zuriel “N” would also be related to the theft of 3 million pesos, an event that occurred in the Jardines del Sur subdivision of the municipality of Benito Juárez, on October 31, 2024.

“Once the corresponding procedures were carried out, the detainee was placed at the disposal of authorities,” they reported.
