Playa Centro and Playa Norte promoting Inclusive Beaches Program on island

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The municipality of Isla Mujeres is working to promote inclusive beaches on the island. On Tuesday, Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde announced the donation of three amphibious chairs to accommodate the disabled who visit the beaches.

According to Ricalde, the three chairs, which were refurbished, are for use at Playa Centro and Playa Norte, and are available to promote inclusion on the beaches of Isla Mujeres.

In a statement, the Government of Isla Mujeres said together with the Teletón Children’s Rehabilitation and Inclusion Center (CRIT) and the Isla Mujeres Comprehensive Family Development System (DIF), they delivered three amphibious chairs to the Federal Maritime Land Zone (Zofemat) of Isla Mujeres.

In the framework of the International Human Rights Day, the Isla Mujeres City Council signed a collaboration agreement with the CRIT Quintana Roo and the DIF Isla Mujeres, to carry out joint actions that promote inclusion and contribute to the advancement of the Inclusive Beaches Program.

Accompanied by Paolo Sergio Montero Jáquez, Director of the Teletón Children’s Rehabilitation and Inclusion Center, and the Honorary President of the DIF Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez delivered three amphibious chairs that were restored, a tool that will allow people with some motor disability to enjoy the beaches of Isla Mujeres safely and comfortably.

“We are joining forces to advance the Inclusive Beaches Program with equal opportunities and the full enjoyment of our beaches because we believe in a government that responds with actions and with the heart,” said the Mayor of Isla Mujeres.

Ricalde said the initiative seeks to promote Playa Centro and Playa Norte in inclusive spaces as part of the Municipal Government’s commitment to social justice and equal opportunities for all.

With these actions, the Government of Isla Mujeres joins the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by the Governor of the State, Mara Lezama Espinosa, where people, mainly vulnerable groups, are at the center of decisions.
