Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Elements of the Public Security and Municipal Transit Directorate (SPyTM) in coordination with the National Guard, detained two people carrying firearms on the main avenue Rueda Medina in Isla Mujeres.
The director of the unit, Jaime Ongay Ortiz, stressed that the events occurred after a report to 911 of two suspicious motorcycles. Ongay Ortiz said that the motorcycles were identified and requested to stop, however, both drivers ignored the request. In response, police fired a warning shot into the air.
Both drivers stopped and, upon inspection, were found to be carrying firearms. Ongagy Ortiz reported that a young male and a young female were arrested.
