Over 20 kilos of drugs found washed up on Isla Contoy

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Blocks of narcotics continue to be found washed up along Quintna Roo beaches. In a first, patrolling military located four 5-kilo blocks of marijuana on Isla Contoy.

The packages were found Wednesday by personnel from the Ninth Naval Region who were patrolling the Isla Contoy National Park in the municipality of Isla Mujeres.

During a land surveillance tour of the eastern beaches, naval personnel stationed on Isla Contoy located the four packages that were wrapped with cinnamon tape.

The 20.8 kilos of narcotics have since been transferred to the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic based in Cancun. This latest find is added to the 55 packages, mostly of cocaine, found already this year along state beaches.
