One of Cancun’s new city buses burns

Cancun, Q.R. — One of Cancun’s new public buses caught fire and burned before firemen were able to put it out. The unit caught fire in SM 92 early Thursday morning.

Police and firefighters were sent to 6:30 a.m. scene after emergency services received the report of a public transport unit on fire in the vicinity of Kabah Avenue. The SESA bus, part of the city’s new fleet, was completely engulfed in flames.

The bus was traveling toward Leona Vicario Avenue at the time of the fire. The only person inside the bus at the time of the incident was the driver. He was not injured. One nearby vehicle and the front of a business were damaged due to the extensive heat generated by the fire.

The skeletal remains of the burned bus was eventually towed away. Authorities have not provided a possible cause for the fire.
