According to the police report, a group of criminal gang members had repeatedly visited the hotel demanding services, selling drugs and threatening staff.

Police found two of the gang members armed in the bathroom area of the hotel’s swimming pool Thursday from where they were fired upon. Police repelled the bullet attack killing one. The second armed gang member was arrested from the Costa Mujeres hotel.

Photos since the police statement suggest at least two people were taken into custody.

Police have not identified the criminal gang members involved but have confirmed the death of one member and the arrest of the second. Police also seized two loaded firearms from the scene.

Police say an operation to locate the other gang members is underway.

Upon repelling the attack, one alleged criminal was killed, while another was arrested and two firearms were seized, one of which is exclusive for military use.
