One killed and two arrests made after exchange of gunfire with Isla Mujeres police

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — One dead and two detained was reported after an exchange of gunfire between military personnel and criminal gang members. The shooting of the gang member happened Wednesday afternoon when a military truck was fired upon while passing through Isla Blanca.

The military truck took at least four hits when police began to fire back. The gunfire was coming from two vehicles. One of those firing shots at the truck was hit after police returned fire. He died on scene.

Isla Mujeres police were able to locate the involved vehicles, which lead to the arrests of two along Bonampak Avenue in Cancun. According to preliminary reports, the military truck was ambushed by two vehicles as it drove through Isla Blanca on the Continental Mainland of Isla Mujeres.

Two people from inside one of the involved vehicles were arrested in nearby Cancun. The others managed to escape. During the exchange of gunfire, one male was killed.
