Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A new swimming area has been created at the north end of the island. On Tuesday, the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) of Isla Mujeres, together with concessionaires and citizens, changed designated swimming area.
The new area has been marked with buoys from Playa Chimos to the Hotel Mia.
The director of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone of Isla Mujeres, Antonio de Jesús Delgado González, explained that the section in which the buoys were placed is between 500 and 600 linear meters and marks the area not meant for boaters heading toward Playa Norte.
The buoys were finally placed after years of requests by citizens and business owners who said boaters came to close to the swimming areas.
According to H. Ayuntamiento de Isla Mujeres, during the recent long weekend, the municipality of Isla Mueres recorded an 86.7 percent occupancy rate, with an estimated 95 percent for the next holiday season.
