Chetumal, Q.R. — The Secretariat of National Defense says already this year, they have reported nearly 100 illegal flights crossing from South America into the territory of the state of Quintana Roo.
Miguel Ángel Huerta Ceballos, commander of the 34th Military Zone, says that an international monitoring system is in place and so far this year, has detected approximately 100 illegal flights that they presume, are transporting drugs.
Based on their data, he said an alert is maintained in advance so they know when these illegal flights will arrive in the country. It is from this system that they have detected about 100 aircraft suspected of carrying out illicit flights mainly from Venezuela and Colombia.
Huerta Ceballos says that the entry of drugs into the country is not only by air or land, but also by sea. “It’s usually an average that is based on a demand from our country and the country to the north.”
He recalled that during the first days of March, an aircraft crashed near the border area, however, there was only one survivor who was arrested.
