Costa Maya, Q.R. — A maintenance worker making repairs on a public utility pole died from a fall when the pole collapsed with him on it. The accident happened on a high-voltage utility pole on the Mahahual–Xcalak highway in Costa Maya Thursday.
According to initial reports, the accident happened shortly before noon when the worker climbed the concrete pole which was reported in poor condition. While on the pole, it collapsed from his weight.
The worker fell several meters to the ground suffering head trauma. Cooworkers rushed him in a private vehicle to the Mahahual fire department for help from the onsite paramedics, however, he died.
Forensic medical personnel were called for the removal the body. The 54 year old maintenance worker has not been named.
