Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Power was affected north of Playa del Carmen Friday morning when a pole was downed by a pickup. The driver of the truck who plowed into the concrete CFE pole managed his escape before police arrived.

National Guard were first on scene in response to motorist reports of the single vehicle accident. In a ditch north of Playa del Carmen they found a heavily damaged pickup entangled in city power lines.
The pole was broken into two pieces causing the lines to fall. The driver responsible was no where to be found. The old pickup truck had been abandoned. The mishap happened shortly before 10:30 a.m.

As a result of the crash, one lane of the highway was closed for several hours creating heavy traffic congestion. Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were called in to replace the pole and restore power. A tow truck also added to highway traffic congestion while it utilized the closed lane to remove the truck from the ditch.
