Navy rescues man adrift off Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Fifth Naval Region of the Secretariat of the Navy reported the rescue of one male found adrift. The Navy reports the man of Mexican nationality was located two nautical miles (approximately four kilometers) northwest of Isla Mujeres.

In a statement, the agency explained that it carried out the rescue after receiving an emergency call informing that a smaller IMEMSA-type vessel named 4 Hermanas with a man on board was adrift after presenting mechanical failures in its propulsion system.

Therefore the departure of a Defender boat belonging to the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station of Isla Mujeres was deployed to carry out the transfer of that person, as well as tow his boat to the quay of the Fifth Naval Region where it was awaited by personnel of the Harbor Master of Isla Mujeres for the corresponding procedures.

The rescued person, who was not identified, remained in good health.
