Navy rescues crew of four off Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Secretary of the Navy has confirmed the rescue of four people in the vicinity of Isla Mujeres.

After receiving an emergency call at the Fifth Naval Region, elements of the navy set out in search of a vessel with four crewmen who were stranded due to engine failure. Vessel El Johan was located 19 nautical miles (approximately 35 kilometres) northeast of Isla Contoy, Q. Roo.

The drifting crew told navel personnel that they had sailed from Cancun and were unable to return to port after their engine failed. A vessel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station along with an aircraft, deployed in search of the men and their boat.

They were given food and water before being towed to land.
